Hello,
I've a question for the tubes experts out there:
My Klimo Kent Gold amplifiers were born with 2 x 2 EL34 AEG branded, similars to the one in the attached pics: the only difference I could see is the straighter getter riser, but by the same dimensions, mine lacks the holes in the base near pin 1 and 5(?) and pin numbers are better stamped. All other details are identical.
The seller told me they are new made tubes from russia, but I'm not able to find this tube by any professional tube seller and JAC Music reports an AEG 6922 fake with a very similar datecode, so I really don't want spend 320 Euros for a 'selected and matched' quad of this tubes and even more I don't want to give money to this guy anymore!
They seems to me the same as TAD EL34STR, so chinese Shunguang, Golden Gate or Valve Art (anyone know about differences between these chinese tubes - if any?), the only doubt I still have is I've broken one and inside it's a penthode, not beam tetrode (as Shunguang claims to be): it has three grids.
They sounded good for more than two years, and for sure they are the only EL34 that I could run well in my amp as it was originally biased at 430 V / 59 mA Ia (+ 2mA Ig2), all the others I tried (Tung Sol, Sovtek and Svetlana winged C) turned red in few minutes.
I've now tuned the bias in the amps (replacing the 560 ohm resistor with a new 820 ohm) in order to safety use others EL34 but I'm still curios to understand what tube are they, just becouse I liked them and if they really are chinese, maybe I could bougth them at a fraction of the price, even 'premium selected' from TAD or others.
Thanks in advance for help, happy new year and regards from Italy.
p.s
Pics come from a german forum where - for what I could understand - they discussed the same topic, someone says they are Tesla, but I don't think so, I posted here the same pics instead of mine, only becouse my camera is out for vacations with my doughter... hope you understand 🙂.

Hi The_manta,
They are 'declared' not original by the vendor, at least as modern Mullard from Reflector are, so you could call it fake or reissue or whatever you want, this is not the point.
What about it is not a beam tetrode? Shunguang should be or I'm wrong on this?

The EL34 is generally understood to be a pentode, all of the Shuguang EL34 I ever purchased were. The 6CA7 may be a pentode or beam power tetrode depending on who made or rebranded it. (U.S. manufacturers)
Shuguangs are 100% authentic pentodes with a real G3 grid and no beam plates !
Look at this pic: http://img04.taobaocdn.com/bao/uploaded/i4/T11hTIXXBmXXbUdYw1_040322.jpg
You would see beam plates through the holes in the inside but there ain't any.

And the quality reportedly has gotten a lot better since I last bought Shuguangs. (Those look better than the ones I had.)
I was just reporting my dubt, originated by the attached shunguang doc. Note that they sell two EL34 models:
the "A" type - slim bottle - is declared as pentode,
the "B" - the one with the fat bottle - is declared as beam tetrode, but at a further reading is clear that it has three grid as a pentode, as I found.
Do you think the plate voltage and current I had in my amps were engineered for this tube that 'nominaly' could dissipate 30W?
Any bad consequence in having lowered the Bias or should I restore the previous resistors in order to use this tube?
thx.
Marco.

The pictures you posted do not look like the traditional fat bottle 6CA7 but a conventional EL34 bottle on steroids. The real deal is a little squatter than the Shuguang EL34-B which is what I assume these are?
What I could not well understand is that now we have at least 2 different chinese producer of the EL34B:
Shunguang, rebrandend in many brands.
Golden Gate /Psavane produced by Guiguang Tube Factory.
Have you ever eard about construction difference between this two tubes or is just a marketing - or a selection to be fair - matter?

Please forgive me, I'm not sure to well understand what you mean with "squatter ", even with the google translator help...
By the way, The bottle is the 'fat' EL34 bottle NOT the 6CA7 I know like Sylvania, RCA or EH. The Glass is 3-4 mm larger than the base (36.5 mm) and 80 mm tall. With the base is 95 mm, 110 with pins and 112 with central key.
Shunguang specification is 3-5 mm taller, and in effect looks like the shunguqng has more space between the lower mica and the base, but I could not test it on a real tube.

The EL34-B just looks like a standard EL-34 in a slightly larger bottle.
You understood well enough referencing the Sylvania, RCA and EH - these are real beam tetrodes and have different shaped plate structure and envelope - that was all I was getting at. The plate structure and envelope are a little shorter in those types hence the reference to squatter appearance. 😀

Do you know if someone other than chinese ever made el34 or 6CA7 in bottles like this one?
