Hi Guys,

I am based in South Africa Cape Town I wonder if anyone would be interested in buying my planar magnetic ribbons I manufacture. They are 40” Long 5 segment 18mm wide laminated to 6 micron mylar and 9 micron alum foil its a similar ribbon to the Apogee Centaur major ribbon. The impedance is 6 ohms once stacked in series. The price that I have in mind is 100USD for a pair this includes shipping via our local international postal service or 70USD without shipping. They really sound great iv pushed them down to 400hz comfortably 3rd order BTW.

Hi George,

Here some pics so long these I have just built recently using these ribbons quoted above. The red finish was a 4 segment ribbon same width. I will post some more pics soon.

Best Regards

Hi Nico,

I grew up in Umkomaas so I know exactly where you are LOL... I have not plotted the new ribbon design but on a basic RTA it looks good and starts to roll off between 12k and 15k. I was fortunate to own the Apogee Diva and have a very good idea of how the midrange and tweeter sound. Naturally the ribbon can be influenced by pole pieces structure ETC when plotted. I am willing to send you a free pair but I would need feedback on the forum as im confident what you hear you will be very satisfied. I have tried many types of foils ETC and this one really works exceptionally well!! I can assist you what I found works in terms of frame,s pole pieces ETC.

Regards

Hi Africa,

I will both pay for them and give feedback. I do not believe in free-bees send me a PM and we can discuss the finer details.

There is another Ribbon enthusiast on this forum (Jozua) who is not far from my place I am sure Jozua would be willing to have a listen and give some feedback. He is the agent for Newform research in South Africa and has been avid DIY buider of ribbons for many years. Out of interest I am running my 40" ribbon with a 40 watt proton D540 amplifier i dont need more power but I am using Neo magnets 55 x 20 x 6mm.
