Placement of MC stepup tranny.

Is it better to put the tranny closer to the turntable or preamp?

My preamp is 6 feet away from the turntable.

Hi Matt. A step-up tranny steps up not only voltage but impedance too so it should be as close as possible to your pre-amp to minimise cable length.

This is simply a bad situation which needs to be resolved if you are serious about the sound. No matter where you place the transformer.
