When I was there a few years ago, I visited a high end audio store (whole building, from 1F to 5F or so), but most of the buildings are full of Anime shops, or duty free shops for Chinese / Korean travelers. I also visited vacuum tube stores, too. I had a nice Ramen and a lot of fun, enjoy!

I was in Japan from 1977 to 1992 off and on with the US Navy. I would go to Akihabara every chance I got. I'm sure I eventually made it to every place there was to go. Take your time and explore; there are some real hidden treasures. I went to the high end "salons" as they are called, many small 1 man booths for rare parts, etc. I consider it the electronics big boy toy capital!

Thank you for all your suggestions. I will sort through it and hopefully visit some.

I will mostly be looking to listen to the latest Papa designs if there's any in the area. The last time I did was 10+ years ago in Seattle...

Sadly my diyA hobby is on the shelf for now.☹

:warped:

Hi Blues,

The big Yodobashi camera store across the JR Akihabara train station has a large audio section with a wide selection of brands and items for all audio needs. It is up around the 4F or 5F. Also some DIY stuff there. There is also a clearance section where I found some good deal.

Also for wide choice and more high-end audio, there is another good shop in the area. From the JR station (opposite direction of Yodobashi), go to Chuo-dori and turn left. Continue in the direction of the bridge and turn right at the intersection just before on Sotobori-dori. Keep on the right side of the street, pass the component surplus store, then a small audio shop with mostly packaged new stuff. Next after you will see a big audio store. There is equipment on five floors plus a basement. The higher you go, the more high end it gets. They have brands such as Accuphase for instance. Not sure about Pass labs but it is worth checking. Also some nice speakers there and a lot of cables, accessories, etc…A really good place

Hope it helps.

Petoluk, those maps will come in handy I'm sure.

Tamra, do you make those Tamura transformers?

Nipper1, assigned at yokosuka at the moment...

Jyg, I'll look for those 2 places you mentioned...

I won't make it this weekend though, got swayed to go explore Mt. Hakone and Lake Ashi with Fujiyama in the background.

Thanks for the link jyg! Here are some pics from my adventures...
