I am cleaning up a vintage PL-71 it is my first decent TT, and am looking for suggestions on decent cartridges at reasonable price.
NOTE: It doesn't have to be ultra hi-fi, because my hearing isn't what it used to be, but... I do not want to buy low quality.
Thank you
Michael

Hi,
The Red Ed Elliptical is a good choice IMO.
Ed Saunders Red Ed Cartridge
Its as good as many $100 cartridges, (and betters quite a few of them).
rgds, sreten.

Any other suggestions??
Under $100 us
I have found many MM cartridges in that price range, but I trust members listening experience here on DIY.

Audio Technica AT-120E!

Hi,
Note the AT-120E mk11 is not as good as the plain AT-120E.
Can't go wrong on a budget with an AT95E generally :

Thank you for all the suggestions. I will certainly take a close look, and then proceed. Waiting to listen to hundreds of albums without digital compression. 😀

Thank you all for suggestions!!!
I have the Audio Technica at 95 E on its way!
Excitement is building...
The next set of projects is building tube preamps, starting with a Groovewatt circuit.
I do not know which will sound the best with my system, so I will build several to do a listening test.
Until they are complete, I will test with my old Harmon Kardon 300b.

Installed An Audio Technica AT95E onto my Pioneer PL-71.....
Oh my goodness... it is amazing!!!
This is my first (good) turntable, and all I can say is the cdp will be shelved for a long time to come.
Thanks to all that helped with the cartridge choices.

Hi,
FWIW I have a far better turntable, arm and cartridge.
My good (lower budget) CDP is better, on very good CD's.
e.g. My Squeeze singles LP trashes the CD, the CD is worse.
Nothing to do with the CD player, the CD mastering is worse.
rgds, sreten.
Your old HK 300B is probably well worth recapping and tidying
up if its in good condition. Add some nice loudspeakers .
