Does anyone know whether Pioneer DV-79avi has a linear or switching-mode power supply? Its predecessor, the DV-59avi, seems to have a switching-mode supply.
Sadly, it uses a switchmode power supply like the 59, 47 & other models of the same period. Can be made to sound great despite that, though.
It is indeed sad, especially considering that it has a retail price of $1000.
Do you know what audio DACs it uses? Some of their new blu-ray players use Wolfson DACs but I do not know which model.

It uses the extremely nice PCM1738 burrbrown dac on all channels, as well as my favorite b-b OPA2134 opamps for the output stages. One nice thing versus the lower models is that the SMPS does provide + & - 12v for the opamps, so you can eliminate the one signal-path dc blocking cap(at final output) from each channel & have a totally cap-free signal path from the dac.
