I have an in dash pioneer dvd player and recently it decided to not let the screen come out of the dash. I have seen this happen before on other units and just replaced the main ribbon cable. Well, almost $50 later and with the new cable installed the unit still won't slide in and out when pushing the button. It does respond to pushing the close and angle buttons but the motor won't engage. I even soldered the several limit switches over to make sure they were all contacting and still no go. Anyone have experience with this particular problem? At this point I am seriously thinking of putting it on fleabay as is because its a pita plugging the ribbon cable into the flimsy connectors and I don't want to break them.

I have seen one with a broken gear. It was acting just as your is. Customer just wanted it to open so he could see it. I was able to remove the broken gear and he can open it manually. I am sure the gear is available if you want to change it. Remove the cover on the piece behind the screen, it will be obvious as to which gear is broken.

I saw the mechanism cover but was afraid to open it thinking there may be some sort of spring or gears that will be out of sync after opening... weird thing is when I applied power with the unit disassembled and the old ribbon cable the screen slid open so I could access the ribbon cable on back. I wouldn't have been able to change the cable otherwise.

I opened the gearbox section and all gears were fine, in fact I was surprised at how good they looked. There are a few position switches here and there and one that is is in a plastic gear frame. I wonder if any of those could be the issue. I also tested both the flip and in and out motors, both worked perfectly and will move it in and out or angle. I have a pic of the gear/switch/driver section if anyone's memory may be jogged by seeing it.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
