For sale(London Ontario,Canada) or trade for stand alone tube amp,or $375.00 or best offer cash.May have a couple pix.
Pioneer SX-40 Tube receiver, total recap, including the very important killer power supply, and Russian PIO in the signal path, basically replacing all the old Suziki oil caps, resistors, etc.I think over 40 caps, resistors replaced.
Over Christmas I've added a new Quad of Electro-Harmonix EL-84 output tubes,so all tubes are good for a long time.
These Pioneer use far beefier mains & output transformers, much heavier than TRIO receivers I have come across.
The FM section works, however was not touched,as I don't use FM much. This model has the cool am/fm Magic tuning eye tube. All Power on & lamps work.
All switching/loudness,Bass/Treble controls work, with the exception of the on/off which is missing a red push on button.I use a power bar, woks for me and protects from Lighting/Hydro surges.
Includes original and schematic, sound is very detailed, with controls on flat position,or a more lively presentation can be obtained for movies, dvd concerts with Loudness boost, your choice.
Phono stage is decent, however my turntable isn't top shelf,so likely a better TT source would give far better results?
Currently paired with Altec 19(Z-19 upgraded crossovers)for Vinyl, dvd concerts & movies.
I have also paired with BIB/Frugal (1st version),but my BIB's need larger 5-5.5 in drivers,than the smaller Fostex 126.
A good, safe, low budget to try tubes with your full range,13 watts is lots, and allows some headroom,a fact many overlook.
