Philips CDM-1 laser diode
Anyone know the part number for a Philips CDM-1 laser diode? The diode seems dead because when I put a CD on the player the laser head moves to the inside of the disc to try and read the TOC but no focusing movement occurs.

The CDM-2/10 has been obsolete for many years. Maybe some on ebay?
Service manual for the deck is here; Philips cdm-2 cd-mechanism service manual PDF - 5 euro

I was mistaken about the model number of the assembly - it is a CDM-1 (I have corrected the title).
There is no visible light coming out of the laser.
Ebay has some but the asking price is way more than it is worth to me.

You will only see light (and it can be very very hard to see as its near infra red) when the lens is moving up and down during the initial focus search routine. So if its not doing that then you have a problem elsewhere.
That is certainly worth looking at, particularly if it uses the Philips radial type caps on the servo board.

Radials ! I meant Axials, legs on each end. (wasn't having a great day yesterday lol)
Lol, yes ! I think Philips must have had a surplus of those to use up when the CDM's were designed.
Recapped transport control board - no better. I noticed the CD spin motor needs help getting started but seems to rotate easily. Perhaps I need to check voltages are correct.
In post #1 you mention that there is no focusing movement.
A recap was worthwhile because the old caps can cause so many issues, but having found its not corrected the issue means you must look at the basics of the operation of the player. The motor will not spin until focus has been found, so no hocus-pocus, no spinning of the platter.

I finally got around to removing the diode. The marking on it is S22M0E060. Is this the same part you refer to?
Before the turntable start rotating the laser is switched on and the pickup starts to move up and down; if the emitting diode is working you can see a red dot on the lens (don't look directly ). Is the red dot present?
Apparently the laser that's required is the S type compact version. Anyone know where I can order one from?
Maybe I can help you, but I need some info. Cd player model and an image of the transport assembly.
