Philips cd373 Err

I have an old Philips CD373. I got it second hand some 15 years ago and it was working perfectly since then. Now it just shows Err on the display. I took it apart completely and removed some dust. After putting everything together again it's still the same: Err

Any ideas?

Thanks!

There is two main issues I see again and again with these players:

- All of the electrolytic capacitors in this player will have expired by now, and will need replacing.
- The oil in the swingarm pivot of the laser mechanism can dry up, and the swingarm won't move as freely as it should. The swingarm should move very freely, if it doesn't, add a small amount of light machine oil.

Hi amc184

Thanks for your input! The swingarm moves very freely, so I don't think that's the problem. Would expired capacitors really cause an Err message or rather result in bad sound quality or a total failure?
I'm not very much into electronics and soldering, so I'm not going to replace all capacitors. If there is no simple solution, I'll probably need to get rid of this nice player... 😡

Sure, bad capacitors disable many of these older players. It would be a shame to throw it out, put it up for sale in the 'Swap Meet' section, somebody will want, even if only for parts.
