Philips CD 951, after recapping I get ER04
I have a Philips CD 951 (a slightly modified CD 950) which I wanted to fully recap as some capacitors measured a little weak (60-70% of their original capacity). After replacing all caps with good replacements (all high quality japanese) the cd player no longer reads disks: after loading the tray, the disk is spun at high velocity and then it says "error". I tried the test mode as indicated in the service manual and the reported error is ER 04 "Too many TL". That says nothing to me and I do not even know where to start troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting so far:
1) re check all caps - OK
2) clean flat cable connector - OK
3) clean the lens - OK
But the error is still there. Any suggestion ?
thanks
Enrico

Actually I have found an acronyms table in the service manual and TL stands for "Track Loss Output Signal". It's an advancement in the investigation, but still not really sure what might be the issue. I think I will start by checking the four photodiodes of the CDM-9 as suggested by the Service Manual; if the disk start to spin I guess the laser is OK, but maybe one of the PD is dead.
Today i checked the four PD's of the CDM-9 and they all seems to work; measured with a diode checker they show 1.5v and testing with an oscilloscope they all detect the IR generated by a CD player remote. I also measured the laser voltages (LO, LM) and they are within expected ranges.
But i also checked a teste point where i should see the eye pattern and when the disc start spinning I actually see garbage.
I'm lost i do not know what to do next other than undoing all my recapping.
Is anyone familiar with these CD players CD930/31 CD950/51 ?
