I found a couple of these speakers (philips AD12100/hp8) second hand.
IF possible I would like to make an open baffle effort (with helper tweeter??)
There is not very much info on the net about these.
Anyone who has any data about the AD12100-HP8 ?
Anyone who tried them in open baffle ??
Every help is welcome!!
Leon

Hi Leonidas,
What did you do with these drivers,
what's your verdict?
I'm a proud owner of a mint pair of these,
wondering what to do with them.....
Was thinking of an Onken-style enclosure,
but am also considering Open Baffle....
Did you find some T/S parameters?
Cheers,
Empee

Hallo EmPee,
Thanks for the interrest. For the moment I'm using them open baffled (will send pics later on this weekend).
Did some experiments with "helper tweeter", because of my 24 years old daughter, who heard some missing highs. For the moment the best sounding tweeter is a Siare TWRV 1090.
They realy sound wonderfull and warm.
In fact they sounded more pleasing then my fostex fe 166 horns.
So I will continue experimenting.
I'm aiming for something like the supravox open baffle.**
Couldn't find any TSP's for them. So I'm using the TSP's from another very simular looking Philips: AD 12252/HP ( Fo 55 , Qt 0,69, Vas 111L), which looks from the outside very simular.
This indicates Open Baffle will be the right approach.
Onken encl. will be no good; to high Qts (0,69).
Because there were no reactions at all, on this post, I went on on my own. But from now on I will post more to lett you know how things are going in the future.
Leon.
I did try to attach the supravox open baffle file, but it is to big.

Some info on these speakers:
http://www.hupse.eu/radio/speakers/AD12100.htm
As the hi-tones cone is not available in your model you have to add a simple dome tweeter. A series capacitor (tuned to the right sound) will do. Its nice to mount the tweeter in the center of the speaker with a metal strip or so.
Open baffle needs to be at least 1 m2. Open box (foam damped on the walls) will do as well. I thought Philips advised a 120 liter BR.

Philips speaker encoding
oh, but mine DO have the whizzer cone !
As far as I understand the Philips encoding
(please correct me if I'm wrong)
the /M is the standard fullrange (whizzer) 25Watts max.
the /G is the Guitar version, with a heavier cone,
so less extention in the highs. Will take 25Watts as well
the /HP version is "high power" and can take 40Watts.
but should be the same as the /M (response wise)
only the /W version is without a whizzer, as the 'W' stands
for 'woofer'
There's also a MFB version, wich stands for Motional FeedBack
(has a piezo pick-up behind the dome wich picks up the movement
of the cone, sending it back to a specially designed amplifier
who corrects any irregulation between the original signal and actual cone-movement).
....Would love to know the T/S parameters on these.....

Planet10, have you got info on Onken's ?
By the way,
what kind of QTS figure does an Onken 'need' ?
I'm confused,
the Onken was developped in a time when no speaker
reached a OTS of under 0.50 ?
I also got a pair of Philips AD1065/M8's,
anybody got spec's on those ?
Maybe those are fun for an Onken!
Cheers,
Empee

Maybe this helps for the guys that need T/S before the woodworks. 😉

I do own some measurement system called DAAS.
Haven't used it for several years. Most of the time I use my ears.
Will start DAAS up on sunday, trying to get some results.
"Add mass" method will be used.Have to look for some modelling clay (mass) as well next day.
Post results later.

Hello,
I have a set of AD1065/M8's and have tried to measure the Thiele/Small parameters on it. I don't think the method I used was very accurate, so I will try again soon, but I measured an Fs around 50Hz and a Qt that was higher than 1. I will post my measurements based off of the method on Rod Elliots site.

Hello Zen-Mod,
Thank's for the interest.
X-over , was mentioned earlier,
one cap on tweet and one induct. on woof.
My English is not good for expressing my emotions.
Let's try :
Sold my beloved horns yesterday.
They sound a 100% beter dan fantastic !!!
Beat everything (almost) that I heard before.
Will need some help on frame tweaks and EnAbleing
Dave or Bud ?? please !!

Hello TOMAC,
I don't no, did a search for high Q 15 inch cheap.
The are from Belgium, and are called"Spynkx".
Qt 0,78 and Fs 27 Hz.
Didn't want to pay much because first experiment with Open Baffle.
Payed 40 euro each.
I took the "Lampizator"- approach ,star with wide band midrange, do a lot of listening, add tweeter and adjust cap to MY ears, add woofer 15 or 18 inch and buy ONE good inductance
(3,9 mH 0,16 ohm) adjust midrange to woofer etc.
Philips was 2e hand : 7,50 euro each and tweater was on the shelf.

Philips AD 12100 M8
Hi all,
I just want to share my experience with fellow friends of this Philips AD 12100 M8 driver. I happen to visit a wedsite by Dr. Kevin Blaine Grier, University of Oklahoma, and he had built a pair of enclosures follow a vintage design he found in the 12" Cletron speaker.
I managed to ask a carpentor friend, to help me emulate the same speaker enclosure for my Philips AD12100 M8. The results are very impressive in terms of sound and look.

Hello Simei,
Looks awesome !!
Very nice speakers.
I took a look at your recomanded site but couldn't find any exact drawings.
Are you willing to share your boxdrawings??
Any data (TSP's) about the AD12100-m8??
Suppose they sound about the same as the HP version.
Only the consumed power for the HP version being higher .
hope you are as pleased with the sound as I am??
You didn't felt the need for a tweeterhelper??
greets Leon.

Philips AD12100 M8
Hi Leonidas,
The actual drawing is at this wedsite:
http://www.geocities.com/tadgesualdo/VintageTLDesign.html
Both AD12100 M8 & HP are similar. They sound very sweet and pleasant to my ears.
I am quite happy without adding any tweeter to it.
Cheers!!!😀
