how does the peerless 10" xls with passive unit compare it's bass output and how musical is it?compared to the james $2000 sub or jm labs,psb or any other brands.will it out performe them?

Well, the XLS 10 inch units I have heard using a passive Radiator sound fantastic. I have used an XLS 12 inch in a ported box with excellent results. Pitch recognition is great, bass is tight, extension is really good (as long as you pick the alignment of the box and type to suit the particular model of XLS used!)

I've had great results out of my 10" XLS in a Formatube (Sonatube) design. Current project is to migrate speaker and plate amp into a new 50 litre ported box (under construction) for comparison

All sides are 18mm MDF.
Front and back (red/green): 320x320mm.
Top and Bottom (yellow): 320x356mm.
Sides (blue): 356x356mm
Braces (grey) 320x320mm.
This gives a gross internal volume of 32.7 litres. I estimate between 25-29 litres after bracing, amp and driver displacement.
You must use a wood inserts or t-nuts.
The breathing holes were cut in the braces ad-hoc. I don't remember the sizes of hand.
There is no batting/damping/stuffing material inside.
Were I to do it again, I would double the amount of bracing after seeing how much air this thing moves 😀 The tight tolerances on the bracing may not be easy to achieve if this is your first wood working project. You may want to consider doubling up the panel edges.

the idea of putting the driver and PR both on the front panel and the plate amp on the back. The box can then serve as a stand for satelite speakers or whatever. Interal volume is 28 liters before bracing, speaker and amp displacement. I would like to post a picture, but I can't find one that's small enough for the software here to accept. If you search this group for XLS, I'm sure you can find it.
Mine is made of 1" particle board with a 1" shelf brace between the sub driver on top and the PR on the bottom. The cabinet itself does not rattle -- yet -- but when I turned it up and played a 20 Hz test tone, the PR frame rattled against the box. That bad boy was hoppin! I tightened the bolts down like torquing lug nuts on a car wheel, and it's okay for now.
If I had it to do again, I would get a different plate amp, one with a 24 dB / 8va high pass filter. Parts Express has one that's rated 200 watts, although the 24db rolloff is not advertised. Maybe that's because their expensive amps have only a 12 db rolloff. I'm running the sub through a Richter Scale Serie III.
Finally, 3 or 4 db boost at 20 Hz is not a bad idea. I made a modification to the amp to that effect.
Finally, finally. No, I still haven't finished the raw particle board.
