I purchased P830985 about 10 years ago for 980 yen per piece (6.34 USD at current rate).
It was sold by a Japanese discount store from the manufacturer's large inventory.
This driver is well balanced and can put a lot of power. It is a true little giant that can be used with many different types of boxes.

I think I have some of these! Do you have plans of the boxes? 🙂
edit: oh mine are PLS-75F25AL02-08 😕

PLS-75F25AL02-08 would fit in HB-07F-ML.
Is there any possibility you can do level-referenced distortion measurements?
Sorry, distortion cannot be measured.

what is your favourite small fullrange driver?
3" TangBand W3-1878(Too expensive to buy)
2.5" Wavecor FR085CU02 (=FR070WA05-square basket)
2" SPK Audio F02P-4
I was interested in building this HB7 design with the MarkAudio chn50, but noticed that the outside diameter of it is 103mm and the front is only 92mm...
Anyone built this combination?
Would it be better to use the chn40 (which, remarkably enough, has a lower resonance frequency) or the Peerless P830985 ?
And then in the hb6 or hb7?
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks

Thank @nandappe
It looks a bit like a child with a water head 😉 with those wide flanges up to the border.
No problem that they are not countersunk in the baffle?
I guess it will show better if the whole baffle would be black. Or use 12mm ply.
I read somewhere that these boxes sound best with female voices, which you chose indeed as well.
How do they sound, for example, with rock or piano?
Can you comment on the sound difference between chn50 and peerless or tang?
Thanks

Hi Dupt.
All my enclosures do not have countersunk.
I don't know, I rarely listen to rock at home.
Other genres do not make a big difference.
Hi @nandappe I'm trying to make up my mind which cabinet with which driver to build. I might choose to make two and compare, but can you tell how you choose or which specs are of decisive effect to fit a driver into a certain cabinet.
For example, I saw that you choose to put the CHN50 into the HB-07F-ML cabinet, but it would also fit into the HB-06F, which has the same width but is higher/bigger. I'd expect the HB-06F would give better bass for example. Is this a matter of trial and error, or can I use technical specs as a guide line to choose (and which)?
Thank you for your designs and inspiration!

Hi Dupt.
If you have space for a larger size, you should choose the larger one.
Basically, the smaller size has less and tighter bass volume and the larger size has more bass volume.
The mids and highs do not differ as much as the bass.
HB-08F is used by many and is my favorite.
I had a CHN-50 (OM-MF5) in a small double bass reflex (HB-08F) and it was very good.
In Japan, an evolutionary model of the CHN-50 is available.
CHN-50
CHN-519(evolutionary model)

Hello @nandappe
As a curious learner of new things I had a look at your websites to see if I could find more about the way you made your designs.
Of course, since I don't speak Japanese, I used google translate.
Now I don't know if your way of expressing is sometimes quite poetic, or that google's Japanese knowledge is hardly better than mine, but I had some interesting and enjoyable time trying to figure out what was meant. 😆🤣
For example: The end of this page : http://spc.jpn.org/BH_sekkei.htm translated as:
I think this is beautiful!
PS If you have English sources for this design method, I'd be very interested!
PS 2 I love you openings quote, about eco-friendly living. My quest for mini speakers that still have a nice sound is the driving force for my current adventure here:
"I'm talking quietly about sorting out forgotten things, taking notes, talking to myself, eco-friendly living, etc. (whispering)
Spending time without spending money... this is the secret to my low-end audio hobby"
Thanks for your work! 🙏
Greeting, Tomas

@Dupt - this is what my browser thinks are English translations of the page and the two links to the original method. FWIW.

The URL is for beginners who want to design their own speakers without any technical knowledge or TS parameters.
The content is simple and cheap and will not be useful for Tomas.
Please use a simulator such as Hornresp.

Thank you!
That is very helpful 🙏
Comparing the translation I see (with Japanese text pieces intermingled) and the version you posted there are huge differences. Yours makes more sense but is less poetic 🤣
What did you use?

I know a bit about the basics of electronics and speakers, but I'm definitely not a (mathematics) geek!
So the the term 'beginner without (any) technical knowledge' is not so far from the truth I think...
Why do you think it's not useful for me?😕
I have installed Hornresp and Basta! and will play with those programs for sure. It looks like a steep learning curve!
My first plan is to make the HB-08F boxes with the Peerless PLS-830986 or the Peerless PLS-75F25AL02-08 drivers. I guess that would be a nice combination. The Sd, Vtc, Ssg, CRa, CRb all seems to fit with the specs from the HB-08, maybe the Vdc might be bigger??
How is the tube length calculated... I have to study more. Currently also reading Vance Dickason - Loudspeaker Design Cookbook-2005
.
The 75F25 seems to lack in the higher region though according the specs, compared to the P830986.
Any advice or tips on this would be welcome.
My main music ranges from rock, pop, world music to jazz, not so much classic.
Greetings
Ahh, never used that, but indeed that works like a charm 👍Just built-in Firefox 135.0 translation
