For all those that value poly cones there is a sale of these fine midwoofers at Madisound which doesn't come very often. I have designed one set for a friend's friend.

Andy,
Personally I support DIY'ers who want to play at all levels of spend. There's lots of room for personal satisfaction that does not require top end spend.
The 830xxx series are very nice drivers, though power limited. In the right application they sound very nice for not a lot of cash.
Best,

I guess those would be nice for low end system.
Nice, what a jerk.

I have been very impressed with the 830870.

There is more to this range of drivers than what one would presume from the pictures and price tag. The quality appearance is higher once you hold it in your hands. If the circumstances were different, I'd build a Dynaudio Evidence Temptation Clone with these.

Obviously it was a joke.
My good buddy Joe Rasmussen has written a fairly definitive guide to the Peerless 830875 (aka Nomex 164) and 830874 (PPB polycone) drivers. Good value.
Elsinore Nomex Drivers
Hardly any difference between them! But a good article. Notice the LCR notch around 4kHz. This straightens out the phase and dumps some of the breakup nasties. 😎
FWIW, Troels did a 2.5 way design with the 830875: PEERLESS-NOMEX-164

Let's get this right. 4x 6" woofers, 2X 5" midwoofers, 2x Esotar 1" tweeters.
Oh wait. I always said MTTM was a good idea on dispersion and distortion grounds. How they laughed. Well, they aren't laughing now! 😱
