Peerless by Tymphany 830869 8" Nomex Cone HDS Woofer
What is the collective consensus on these? I'm wondering about a pair, paralleled per cab, with a cd/waveguide. The price is very enticing. Size would not matter. Thanks in advance. Glenn.

Hi,
For the price, it is a great driver. Especially with the 40% off!
I've seen several poeple recommend it.
See measurements here:
Peerless 830869 | HiFiCompass
Pay attention, guys push pull might force you to only use it below ~150Hz, which does not allow to cross for compression driver typ 1.6K

Decent driver, and a bargain at that price.
My most recent project involves an 8" and a 1" compression driver per side. 4x 8"s a side would be a different level of fun!

I have had good results using Peerless/Vifa drivers. Great when you factor in the cost. These drivers do require a large vented box volume at 1.6 qft for an F3 of 38Hz. With a 90.2 db sensitivity they will be loud but with a 60 W RMS if driven much harder in a vented encloser you will hear them bottom out. I had some Vifa branded non truncated versions of these speakers once upon a time.
I'd use two drivers per speaker and make some three way floor standers.

Agreed with Nightingale-V build. I did a box similar to that with SB26ADC, the Peerless had about 23l volume. Worked much better than the optimal simulated.
Thanks for the replies! I tried to find systems that had dual driver setups, and crossover diagrams. I like the design of Michael Chua, but I was thinking along the lines of a tmm floorstander, with as much sensitivity for dynamics. I don't need crazy volume output, but I run 90-95 db at my lp every once in a while. With 2 in parallel, giving 96.4 db prior to bsc, could I assume a system sensitivity of 93 db could be achieved? Also, how low would these be able to go, while still achieving a good kick for fusion, rock, progressive. I'm not looking for sub level bass, but I also don't want thin. Glenn.
I like the small Peerless drivers for sound a great deal, but they are usually pretty power restricted.
A lot of times I've found similarly priced units from FaitalPro with better power and/or better high frequency extension.
Worth comparison shopping,
E

In the optimum vented box you should be able to get 38Hz but more realistically I'd say you should be able to hit 45Hz without any trouble. These drivers are perfect for jazz/fusion and rock. I would still recommend two of these drivers used in a three way floor stander.
If you build a TMM, aka a 2.5 way, your final sensitivity will be some 90dB. If you don't want to fully compensate the baffle step effect, build a 3 way, or a MTM 2 way.I was thinking along the lines of a tmm floorstander, with as much sensitivity for dynamics.
