My Peavey PVi 4B - Powered Mixer sat for about two years and now sounds low level and distorted. Is this common, and what should I be looking.
Dirty contacts or internal connectors or pots. Pots wipers are a connector, they oxidize like everything else. Some pots can be sprayed out bycontact cleaner, some you exercise, some you replace. Warning contact cleaner is flammable, no smoking, pilot lights, open flame or electicity turned on or off within 10 m of use. Set up a fan beforehand to blow fumes way. I like CRC 03150
Internal connectors can be removed & replace to scrape the oxide off.
After all that, low volume can be rail ecaps old age or some internal coupling e cap also suffering from old age. But they age from use mostly, not from sitting around. If the rubber cracks while sitting around, a couple of hours of use will heat ecaps up & boil the water out. I haven't had many small ecaps in peavey products be a problem in units built since 1990. Did have one short in a 2004 switcher supply, where they run hot.
