PCM 1746E? M5218AFP? Panasonic RP-91

I've been curious as to the internals of my Panasonic RP-91 DVD(-A) player, and from the panasonic parts ordering site I am able to get a parts list for the entire machine. I can't find data sheets on a lot of the stuff so I'd thought I'd ask here to see what people know about the parts:

1. PCM1746E is the DAC which I assume is Burr Brown but there is abolsutely no information on this particular chip on the web. I have found data sheets for PCM1742, 44, and 48 (this is a 24/192K DAC)

2. The only op-amp listed is M5218AFP (mitsubishi part). Anyone have any comments on this one (no one has mentioned it on this site according to search, so has anyone actually tried one?)

3. It lists 3 crystal oscillators (VSX1044, VSX0944, VSX1045) that I can't find any info on. I assume one is for the video dac (54Mhz), one is for the 48,96,192K audio and one is for the 44.1,88.2,176.4 audio.

I have been making DVD-A discs by upsampling CDs to 24/176.4 with my own software (that is my DIY) and this player is seriously impressing me compared to the Rotel 971 transport/CS4398 eval board (battery powered) that I have been using. In fact it leaves that combo in the dust. I am very curious about the parts quality. Panasonic claims to have japanese bamboo TA-KE II capacitors in this thing.

Also, there is a button sequence which lets the display on this thing show a real time jitter measurement. I am note sure exactly what the numbers it is giving me are measured in but the DVD+RW discs I have been using show a jitter reading 50% greater than the DVD+R discs I got the other day.

Hi Macaque,

I'm not aware of PCM1746E???

M5218AFP is dual OP, comes in SIL8 and DIL8. Nothing special about this OP. I have full specs in pdf form, size is 355 KB. Send me an e-mail, and I'll respond and send you the whole file! I do not think this page will allow me to send a file of this size - I'll try!

DVD+RW have lower reflectivity than DVD+R, this is why you are getting higher jitter reading with +RW.
