The A40 is biased to 60W Class sliding to A/B.
The heatsink is the chassis and temperature controlled not to go above 40C (unless you are already at 40C), So in a home at 25C the max temp was 37.8C
On start up the idle current is set to be twice the running current so the a4A quickly get to it running temp this took about 15mins.
It also has balance and non balance input were as the standard M50 has only non balance input.
The single 225VA transformer runs two bridge rectifiers with each channel having a total of two of 15,000uF . These high ripple rated capacitor should last over 20 years on all the time.
The balance input is set to run on 600 Ohms.
The RCA non balance is set for 22K Ohms.
The one I tested today gave 60W RMs into 8R and 1150W RMS into 4R.
The press button ON/OFF switch operates a 16A relay with spark suppression, and maximum isolation for a safe operation. This PCB also has the mains fuse rated at 3.15A, and a added trick when plug in to draw less than 1W.

The block diagram can be found here under the original name of M40A.

A friend I met through Hi-fi borrowed one and tried it on tiny Royd's here are his comments, and EWA XLR balance cables.

"You bet absolutely fantastic. Never thought my my system could ever sound this good. Amp was so good itself will micro detail controlled bass and completeness of sound. The balanced cable just adds and enhances all that. Really clean crisp defined sound with bass to die for. Vocals are better than real life and amp captures true ambience and emotion of singer. Never heard drums sound so realistic. True whack of kick drum and cymbals just shimmer. So 11 out of 10 for easily the best system I have ever had in my living room.
It cant get better can it ??
Thanks so much for letting me hear it Col.
Take care and best to you and your good missus. "

That was nice thank you, it gives me encouragement to get up for in the morning.
