I couldn't find an answer anywhere. There is a new driver brand I'm working on a design for and I want to use a passive driver. They don't have one. Can you use passive drivers from a different brand? I did see this every now and then, but how to match them, where to look for? And as a second solution, can you use a active driver as a passive driver?
I am not sure what you mean. Active speakers have their own amplifiers and crossover (usually active or dsp). The drivers are the same you have in passive speakers.. However, every driver has their own character and sound, which means you have to change the crossover if you want to switch the model of the driver.
I suppose you are talking about passive radiators?
You can simulate PR systems with most box simulation software.
And here is a (german) example of using/converting an active driver as PR:

Of course! Can you use passive drivers from a different brand?
Yes, but it's more expensive! And as a second solution, can you use a active driver as a passive driver?

Yes I meant passive radiator! Thanks for that example. The driver is affordable so I might go that way.
Soundimports (located in the Netherlands) had many passive radiators. The SB Acoustic and Dayton Audio aluminum designer series (DSA series) have worked well for many people and are priced reasonably.
