Are there any Nelson Pass-designed phono preamp schematics floating around? If not, where would you point a guy looking for a simple DIY phono state in keeping with Papa’s general design philosophy?
In 1977, NP designed the Threshold NS10 preamp. It is a phonostage plus a linestage plus volume control, balance, input switching, and tape loop. The schematics are floating around, google will find them for you. You want the variants that are hand drawn and include the wildly obsolete double-diode part number MSD7000.
Whoops, too late for a ninja edit. MSD7000 is available today, in surface mount form. The price is $0.46 at DigiKey.

Why not build each of the variants and then carefully listen to them? When complete, you will know with great certainty, which one YOU think is better.
