I have recently purchased Sony STR-DE485E Receiver and would REALY like to connect my Panasonic SB-WA530 Subwoofer. As I managed to figure out Sony requires Active Sub so wiring directly from speakers to RCA will not work. Or will it? Can anyone help. I don't know much about speaker schematics but I'm ready to take a challange rather than buy a new active SUB.
You can download the service manual for your sub from Google-Ergebnis für http://elektrotanya.com/PREVIEWS/63463243/23432455/panasonic/panasonic_sb-wa530eb.pdf_1.png.
Use an RCA cable, cut the connector off on one side, connect shield to pin 18 and the hot wire to pin 17 of the woofer connector. It will be easier, if you still have the system cable, cut it, find out which wires are connected there with a DMM and connect the two cables accordingly.

Once you have patched in a RCA connection to pins 17,18 will it work as a stand alone sub? Should you do anything to operate the fan?

The system cable has to be plugged to the sub and receiver for the sub to accept the newly wired input, it must receive a signal from the receiver to activate the sub circuit, my best guess is the sync signal, can anyone confirm?
I started a thread for the SB-WA520. Trying to find out similar info - you might find some schematics/info of use to you there: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/soli...b-wa520-modified-pc-surround.html#post3320347

Hi, did anyone manage to get this to work?
My scenario is that I have this SW as part of an old all in one package. I have now ordered a new amp and want to connect the proprietary panasonic cable to the RCA SW output on the new amp so that it will be treated as a standard powered Sw.
Can anyone confirm wiring up an RCA to the old cable as described above will work? It sounds like just the solution I am looking for.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
