Hey folks, I'm designing an outdoor "boombox" to fit inside my roomie's disc golf cart. So the measurements allow me a max of 18"W x 3"H x 6"D.
Or basically, 5 liters internal (.18 cu.ft) not accounting for driver & venting.
We can do smaller but not larger.
We already have the speakers & amp.
Battery power will likely result in something around 18-24V if I can find room for that somewhere else in the cart.

Since this will be played outdoors with no room gain, what would you suggest for best overall listening experience?
He listens to music with a beat similar to speed metal/rock.

Amp will be a 50x2 at 4ohms, so *hopefully* about 25W to these 8ohm speakers.

I was thinking of going with the full 5L, tuned to 60hz.
But wanted to see if anyone has experience with outdoor boomboxes that would suggest something better/smarter.

He's not looking to blast anyone's ear drums.
Just something that will beat the performance of $80 Amazon boomboxes.

I've used the ND-91 in a 2,5 liter box with these PRs with good success:

You need to have two for each active driver. I also added little weight to each PR, got a little more extension to low end, and lost a little "boom". But of course the standard bass reflex with a tube works also.

The driver itself is pretty good, but the efficiency isn't the best for portable use, if you want long battery life. But if that is not a concern, then it's a good choice. I listened to my boombox with the ND-91 few days ago outside, and it was pretty nice. The lows where also present, but not so powerful of course than indoors. Thinking of adding a tweeter to clear the highs a bit, but you can go without it.
