OTA or VCA for state variable VCF

I'm planning to design a state variable VCF and I see there are multiple options to do so.
One thing I've seen that you can use OTA or VCA for the voltage control but I would like to know if there is any sonic quality/flavour difference.

Are the any key differences between these two technologies that would help me choose the right one?

The key statistic is the linearity - whatever kind of variable gain amp you choose.

A VCA isn't a technology, it just means a voltage controlled amp.

There are also VGA's that have a fixed set of gain settings, implemented by switched
feedback networks - these tend to have the best linearity.
