Hi guys,
Have you tried Oscons as decoupling caps for the opamps in the output stage of a cdp?
I was swapping between the Oscons and Nichicon FGs (decoupling the OPA627) and both caps gave very different sonic signature even though they are not in the signal path.
The Oscons sounds faster, leaner and brighter. Not the nicest sound in my cdp whereas the FGs are warmer and easier going - though I lose the tightness in the lower bass region.
What are the better caps for this application?
Thanks

Hey Ruach, if you have to use largish uf's I found the only electrolytic to use is the Rubycon Blackgate NX 220uf 6.3v Bypolar it kills everything except for polyprops.
And better than that again is direct coupling if the opamp gives only a couple mv dc offset.
Cheers George

Hi George,
I did not mean direct coupling. What I was referring to was decoupling of power supply to the opamps.
Marlowe - The Silmics available locally are too big for my pcb. I may try the Blackgates.
Thanks guys

Sorry mate, when I hear the words output opamps and sound of the caps, my brain goes straight to the coupling caps.
Cheers George

OsCons are not designed for signal decouplin , and they do not like AC signals (audio signals) pass them.
They are the best when they powering digital components.
