I can't seem to do a search in the archives for this does somebody have a link to it?
Can an archive search be done?

Look at Yvesm's web pages:

Here is my take on Yves circuit
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/atta...tamp=1113448831
I think these are the same links I put in at post #362 on pg 15 of the BH Thread but worth a check.
I'm building another ECL86 (6GW8) version for a niece at the moment. It will be fixed biased variant, close to Yves original but using Ultralinear Mode.
Cheers,
Ian

Ian, is there any way I can get in touch with you to discuss circuit stuff off board?

Ian,
your 2nd link doesn't work for me;
do you know off-hand the primary impedance of the OT for Yve's amp? interesting schematic.

Sorry guys - just updated my profile, you should be able to PM me now.
Push Pull Operating points for ECL86 on this data sheet:
http://www.mif.pg.gda.pl/homepages/frank/sheets/010/e/ECL86.pdf
It says Raa = 9K1, I'm building the new amp with Hammond 1609 which is 10K Raa. Close enough. I thought they would be a little better than the Hammond 1608 (8K Raa) for this build.
Cheers,
Ian

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the reply - I'm trying out Blumlein's Garter Biasing on this amp :http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=1593376#post1593376

I didn't think the 270R was split, I thought I just changed all 200R to 270R?
Thanks for the info on the 470K.
Have you tried this biasing method?
Will the feedback R need to be changed?

jkeny,
You are obviously responding to the post I had here for about 10 minutes before deleting it since it contained BS. Just c hanging all the 200R to 270R is correct.
I have posted to your Blumlein Garter thread instead with better info.
Cheers,
Ian

Ah, yes I was confused more than usual for a moment so I posted this to the Garter thread as well just to be sure
Oh, BTW I found the original Baby Huey thread in my references: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=552739#post552739
Thanks for that, I had lost that link myself.
Note Yvesm is using B+ of around 250V so Raa=8K is more appropriate than the 10K Raa I recommended above (for when you use B+ of 300V).
Cheers,
Ian

Hi Gingertube,
In post 6 you mention using 1609's to build a Babey Huey. Did you ever get around to it. I ask because I'm thinking of using my 1609's to build either an ECL86 or EL84 version but which one. My 0-250v trannie is going to give out a high(ish) B+. The only valve stuff I've built so far (that's worked) has been the K502 and am now removing the mods for this project.
Many thanks for your great Babey Huey thread

Bill,
250V secondary on the power tranny will get you around +300V to +320V rail.
You loose about 12V for the output tube bias which subtracts from that rail voltage (for the CCS biased versions). Either of the EL84 or ECL86 versions will be OK with 1609 Output Trannies at these voltage levels. Its at the top of what I would recommend for ECL86.
So really its your choice as to which you go for.
Cheers,
Ian

Thanks Ian for the OK on the 1609's
I think I'll try and build the EL84 with ccs first.I have read your baby huey thread avidly
and think any future questions I might have will have been answered there already.
Brgds
