Hello, I have an optical coupler from a cheapamp (PowerMaxx MS6500). The body is marked LCR0202 200206 and it measures approx 12mm x 7mm with 4 pins for pcb mounting. I havent come across a faulty one of these before. I can get the datasheet online but I cant source the part and was wondering is there a generic coupler that could be used in its place? Any help or advice very much appreciated.
I've got a switcher supply with blown up Toshiba 4 pin opto couplers, and the only measurement on the datasheet is the isolation voltage, input to output. You would think Vcc max or transfer efficiency or something would be important, but apparently "they are all the same". With that "quality" brand as an example, I would just buy some 4 pin opto coupler with the same package and try it. Sounds vaguely like the 4 pin dip package, but the proof is if the pins are on 0.1" spacing next to each other and 0.3" across from each other. 0.1" = 2.54 mm.
Actually it’s a linear opto coupler with a CDS cell inside so the opto couplers from a switch mode power supply would not work as they usually have a photo transistor on the output side.

You might have a look in this thread, it's a bit long for me but they are using a similar device for a volume control.

The Silonex NSL-32Sxxx series might be candidates for functional equivalents, though the packaging is much different. See < http://www.silonex.com/audiohm/index.html >.

Cool. I have an organ with incandescent lamp-CDS cell optocouplers and wondered why there was no LED equivalent. 1966 technology is back again.
