I have a valve amp, DM 120w, and recently pryed it open to see what valves i have in the event i need to replace, but mainly as when its on i can see one pair of the output quad is a lot brighter glowing than the other.
after inspection i have 2 different makes of 6L6GC's in there and one pair is running quite hot. cant find anything on the make(they are just labelled with the logo 'PM') but what i assume is the original pair (or at least the better pair) are philips. I would like to replace them before one pair goes bye bye.
also the pre section has 3x 12AX7 olde style GEC valves (YAY england!) and i think these are probably the better quality of all the tubes on board, but old so may also require replacing eventually.
To cut along story short:
what replacements for these would you valve peeps out there recommend? Sov? mesa? groovetubes? others???

The valves marked PM are probably Svetlana from: PM Components Ltd
It's such a horrible FLASH site that I couldn't bear to go further than the silly noises on the "enter" page - I'll leave that to you🙂
Haven't used 6L6's from them so can't comment. The differing brightness might just be the internal construction. Although it's best to have 4 the same, if they are arranged as pairs (in terms of bias) all will be fine for this kind of application
As for the 12AX7's: As long as they are not crackling or fizzing after cleaning the pins and sockets, I'd leave them just where they are. Just keep a spare with you in case.

Some tubes will simply appear like they are hotter compared to other tubes because some tubes are screened differently , some may have the heater screened so you cant see it glowing very much .....
well thanks dhaen and minion, it may be screens on heaters i guess although the internals look pretty similar if not the same---figure it may just be slightly different operating areas--although the PM ones have slightly discoloured the markings so i will be replacing all 4 with matched valves at the nearest opportunity after christmas---
Thanks for all your help.
That being said:
Does anyone else out there have a recommendation for a replacement 6L6GC, maybe similar to the GEC or Philips ECG 6L6GC as from what iver read the Sovtek ones arent all that great..though the sylvania/svetlana are supposed to be ok.
any help you can give would be great.
