Well, I was modifying my M-Audio SuperDAC 2496 tonight. I had completed upgrading all the caps to Cerafines and Panason FM series caps last night, with no problems.
Tonight I decided to go in and swap out the 1N4001 diodes with MUR8100E's (they're the best that I have laying around right now). I also decided to put in new output jacks. Everything was going fine except being tired and dumb, I screwed the polarity of the diodes up. Well, things were fine for a little bit, since I didn't replace the diode in front of the 5volt regulator (7805). However, once I reversed that, you can guess what happened.
Pop. 1 less 2200uF/16v Panasonic FM, and me dodging some flying electrolyte.
So my question is this. The 5volt regulator seems fried (no voltage on it's output, now that I assume I have the diodes in correctly). I'm going to set out to replace it tomorrow, but I'm hoping (and praying) that I didn't fry the digital section of this DAC.
If nothing else, let this be a lesson to not do stuff when you're tired
Does anyone out there have any advice on troubleshooting after I pick up and install a new 7805 from the ratshack tomorrow?
Thanks!

Just replace
the damaged components, and I think the rest would be ok.
There are hardly any damage after regulators, in my experience.

Re: Just replace
Thanks Arne. I hope you're right! If there's no damage after the regulator I will be most happy 😀

I swapped out the 7805 for one from the ratshack and she's working beautifully again. Now I have a wholly modded 2496 that I'll post some details about once I get pictures of it.
Thanks again!
