Onkyo T-4150 tuner

The display of the tuner doesn't display any more.
I measure about 14 V DC on the pins of the display.
As the tuner only has DC voltage levels of up to 18 V I suppose the supply voltage to the pins is all right.

Anyone experience with this problem?
Perhaps anyone with a service manual?

Thanks for you reply.

I know older displays had that little light bulb behind them.
Not knowing the 4150, I can't tell if that would be your problem.
I recall an AKAi video with the same problem.
Somewhere in the power supply, close to the display, one had to change a few capacitors.

That's about all I can tell without schematic.

The display runs at 3.2V from a seperate winding on the transformer, this winding also runs the light above the power switch.

In the attached partial schematic, the relevant lines I have highlighted in red.

Hope this helps

James

Hi TVI

Great! It certainly helps. One of the supply pins didn't connect well. I resoldered and the display gave light!
The voltage across pins 1 and 36 is 3.04 V AC.
I can now see what frequency I tune to.

The display is however still rather dim. 2 elements light at a proper level, all the others are dim (I can see it when the tuner is searching).
What should I measure on the other pins?

Thank you James.

I have the original service manual for the 9090 II , do you think its the same problem ( contact on display pins )

I was thinking maybe due to age of the tuner its time to replace all the elec. capacitors , but i will inspect the pins first :checked:

This is a very old post, and there is a good reason i didn't keep updated about my Onkyo T-9090 II tuner. I found out that the main processor was damaged when the lightning struck and was unable to find a replacement, due to the fact that the processor was made especially for this model only..

I tried to find one for a couple of years but without success and eventually lost all hope of finding one.

So if someone has a broken T-9090 II, T-9990 that wants to get rid of, or if maybe you know i guy that knows a guy that has one 🙂
