Onken with Selenium 15PW3 or what?

I think the Qts is too high for a good Onken. But the Onken is really just a bass reflex alignment, so you could plug the values into a calculator and see what comes out. Calculating vent length might be tricky, tho.

The Altec 416, 414 and the Old Focal 10" worked well in the Onken/Ultraflex box. And Dave D (Planet 10 Audio) makes some great little Onken boxes with Fostex drivers. He calls them "Fonken"

Qts between something like 0.18 - 0.3.. Large value for Vas..

I am using the 16" Iconic 165-8G, ts params as an example of something that works:

Fs: 37Hz
Vas: 351 liters
Vd: 0.367 liters
Sd: 843 cm sq
Qts: 0.269
Qes: 0.284
Qms: 5.00
Re: 6.20 ohms
Mms/d: 52.3 gms
Xmax: 4.3 mm
Xmech: 7.7 mm

The Iconic 165-8G and the GPA 515-8G are essentially identical except for the decal on the back of the driver.

I really like this speaker for pro application. But you can't get any lower than 60hz, due to xmax, unless you're working on a very controlled power amp (no more than 10w).

It's a superb speaker in terms of efficiency and dispersion, matches very well with the econowave concept.

Thank you all guys!

Yes, it look like pretty awesome and almost like a Altec with ferrite magnet. And their website also look like "Great Plains Audio"s website. Maybe they are same company.

What do you think guys, which is the best for this purpose? I would like to order one of them.

Hi!
Since a long time ago I'm dreaming about to build my own Onken cabinet. But it's quite hard to find suitable speaker for it, especially affordable ones. After long research I have found Selenium 15PW3 speaker. But I'm not sure... Maybe I'm on totally wrong way?
GM seems to be the Onken guy. I would be happy if he would respond.

Greets!

I’m just one of several here thanks to JMLC, though personally not a big fan of them except for its ‘look’ plus it works well once the vents are ‘critically’ damped, i.e. similar to Dave_p10’s ‘Fonken’ concept. I much prefer using some form of TL with just one big vent where practical.

Anyway, with rare exception, I prefer to limit a reflex’s tuning to ~0.707x Fs, so the Onken’s ~22 Hz is too low for me unless a hi-pass and/or stuffing the vents is used to protect the driver somewhat if not corner loaded.

If you can corner load, then the original Jensen Ultraflex concept seems a good choice overall and use vent damping to fine tune it: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...a=X&ei=n9dSUtiuOobW9QSx94CQCg&ved=0CEcQ9QEwAw

If you’re willing to ignore the Onken’s very narrow requirements that basically require reflex horn drivers to be used, then driver selection opens up, making for smaller cabs with the trade-off being longer vents that will probably need some damping.

Thank you GM!
I don't have much experience building speakers. In the past I have build simple bass-reflex cabinets. I think Onken will be good start for me. I have decided to build this one(it's easy): http://www.dcaudiodiy.com/jensen_imperial/page_14.jpg
I will feed them with a class-a amp. It will be my first sensitive speaker.

And what about prices? I have send them both – to Iconic and Great Plains Audio – an email, but they didn't answer. I want to order a pair of speakers.
