Say I want to see very old posts by a specific member. I can easily see about the last 100. Then I hit a "View older results" button, which does not do what it says.

Try me:
https://www.diyaudio.com/community/search/member?user_id=5094
At the bottom of the first page of links, I get "1 2 3 ... 10".
Skip ahead to 10. At the bottom of that is the "View older results". Which does not get past page 10 (or for me, a month ago).

Should we be looking to a future instead of into the past?

The advanced search works if put a 'before' date to search from.

I cannot replicate the issue. If I go to page 10 (which takes you back to about the 17th of March this year), then click 'older', that's what I get.

Interesting. It certainly doesn't seem to work as expected
The link above is to expired information. Rather than linking to search with criteria, it links to a specific past search.

Don't even see where to put that, if I start from the member profile.

that's what I get.
"That"?

It pulls up 200 at a time which you traverse with scroll and a a "10" and scroll and a ""View older results". For members with 20k to 60k posts, that's a third of a million finger-actions. Most (non-Xen) forums, you point at (say) "196" and it is 2006 all over again.

When I click on PRR's profile, &ct., and then the "View older results", I get a new search results page
https://www.diyaudio.com/community/search/263423/
that does appear to have older posts. The counter starts over, though, and shows "1 ... 10"
Perhaps the "pages counter" is the confusing part.

And yes, "Advanced Search" is not visible on the user's profile page; on a user's profile page that link is called "Search Profile Posts" (top of page, last item in the links under the title bar)

Kind regards,
Drew

I'm confused with it all 🙂

So hovering hover Allens profile and clicking 'messages' brings up 10 pages worth. That's fine.

Now I enter a higher page number such as '20' and that is where it breaks. I still see the same results as before.

If I click on 'Search' (that is below the '3') in the above image then it opens the option to enter dates. That works. The other forum I tried is identical in this behaviour.

Looking further and the above isn't quite true, I have found a difference that does not work on here. That said it still is not great...

It seems if you click on page '10' and then goto the option 'View Older Results' and then manually enter a page number then the results should jump to that page. What's bad about that is you have to know the page you want to get to the results you want.

I have described a number of simplistic filament regulators, which have been used successfully by some members, but due to the lousy search function of the new forum software, I am unable to retrieve them.
IIRC, the latest one was capable of several amperes and had a dropout of 100mV, using only plain-vanilla parts (and it was successfully tried and tested by a member).
If you are patient or determined enough, you can browse through hundreds of my posts, assuming you can break the 10 pages limit imposed by the forum.
You will probably have more chances using google, but good luck anyway!
I have found no way to circumvent the limit: I cannot even type a page number outside the range, and the same with the date: it is impossible to type a date older than 2022.
Something else: I see no way to find the threads started by a particular member in a particular forum

no way to find the threads started by a particular member.......
They just call it 'Find all threads by Elvee'.

....in a particular forum
Oh. No. (I'm not real sure the large forum has sections: note there is no section name/number in URLs.)

So why care about the past? Look to the future! Because when the future becomes the past, it is gone.

Library without a card catalog. (The older members will get the reference.)

If you scroll to the end of page 10 and in the ... space before the '10' you can type the page number 11/24 etc. This works for me on an old ac running an old version of Safari.
It sort of works, but in fact it doesn't: I can type in an arbitrary number at least, but it has the same result as using the "view older threads" button: just one more page of results, thus 11 instead of 10, and that's it, whatever the number you have entered

Acts like some sort of search results buffer limitation... I can search my older posts back to 2005, but I have to pre-search from the prior dates at the end of page 10... i.e., first search say all posts from b4 1/1/2015 but after 1/1/2011... gets the 10 pages (but may be more) , then subsequent search b4 1/1/2011 but after 1/1/20xx whatever. seems clumsy at best, but it's no harder than filing Form 1040 income taxes each year, eh?😉😉

First link takes me to threads by me page #1, second link the same but page #2, third link the same but page #361

Used 'not logged in' (so as a guest sees it) and the requests are refused. Used with a test account and they go to pages made by that test account. So it looks like they can not be used to locate and direct to posts from others.
