Well, after the winter around here finally quit, I got to resume playing my Jazzman IVs again. On inspection, I noticed the stators were pulling away from the center foam strips in a few places. The perimeters are OK (because they're clamped by the frame) but the center strips were losing grip 3-4 inches here and there. This is caused by the stators not being completely flat (although I checked this pretty carefully before assembly) so they bulge outward away from the diaphragm. After some thought about what the **** to do, I came up with a fix that seems to work (thanks to Charlie M. for setting me in the right direction.)
The fix is to use small cable ties (zipties), the ones that are about 2 mm wide (NAPA Auto stores, part #770-9222 so they fit through the holes in the stators.) Using a very sharp pointed poker(?) punch a hole through the foam tape to the other side (make sure you take into account your stator holes may not line up perfectly front to back) and slide a tie through it. Pull the "head" of the tie up against the front stator. Cut the head off another tie and slide that head on the tie from behind and pull it up against the rear stator as hard as you can. Using a couple of ties an inch or so apart should get the stator to flatten out pretty well. You may have to do both center strips equally to keep the oilcanning from moving around. The black ties I used are noticeable, but this is better than having to rebuild my panels (again.) For the time being this will work very well. So if you have oilcanning problems, don't despair: they can be fixed.

punching with kind of a needle is critical, as the whole membrane may rip.
Only the tape saves the day, but that may not be lasting long if the membrane is under constant mechanical stess.
A safer method is heat.
Melt a small hole with a hot iron tip or needle.
The PET is self exstinguishing or self-healing.

just what i wanted to say🙂 an old ice pick or prime (to centerpunch in wood) heated above the stove worked wonders.
So far I haven't had any problems with the diaphragm resulting from the holes I made in it. Took a fair amount of courage to do that...never occurred to me to use heat. Good ideas though, Calvin and Wrinex....
