OHPs Second hand or New

I have done the searches and read the info. However a couple of questions remain unanswered which are particular to my own circumstances. I am lucky enough to have a 'den' in the cellar 6.5ft by 11ft. This means I can easily achieve 'pitchblack' conditions day or night with a floor to ceiling screen at one end.

Question one is whether in these conditions, with some light shielding on the ohp, 4000 lum is absoultely necessary or can I get away with 250Watt 2000-3000 Lum...and a 1.1 gain screen?

Second, if 2000+ is do-able would a new ohp single lens out weigh a second (or third) hand double or triple lens for the same money?

The panel I have has a 1:100 contract ratio. 16mill colours.

Has anyone run a rig like this? Thanks in advance.

the 4,000 lumen standard is just opinions of people who own popular sites, 4,000 is NECESSARY but the more the merrier, many ppl use 2,000 lumens it all depends on the user, but if its too dim dont say u werent warned...lol

new or used isnt even a real question to me always Ebay, i dont care if its used or new as long as it cheap, new ones go for 1,000 plus its ur decision if you want to pay all that...lol

Thanks guys

Great help guys.

I know this information is on the forum but it is rarely qualified by how much real ambient light is around or whether the ohp is single or triple.

Even in a pitch black environment 4000 Lum (400W) is the choice for light and a triplet lens for quality.

So the biggest factor is the light passing through the LCD not the surrounding ambient light once a low light conditions have been established.

You've just saved me £50 pr $80US.

Thanks🙂
