I have a 3M 9100 ohp. i modified the stage, so as to reveal the entire fresnel ith my Dremel rotary, and it looks great. Everything works, though the mirror is cracked- doesn't affect projection, and is very easy to replace with just about any other. Here's a link to some info on it- http://machinerunner.com/Overhead-Projectors/3M-9100.html
i tried usign a 400w MH, but it didn't work too well as there is no condensor lens inside
pic of my actual projector (before modifying the stage-

Asking: US 70 - not terrribly stiff on the price. 🙂

Gimme some time.....
I wanted to try one more thing using the OHP and if it works out well, I'm not sure if i'll sell it. I might buld a box if it works out well because i have a better design in mind, and got the ohp for testing. if i'm pleased I'll be ready to let it go soon, so if u can hang on, and see if it's worth buying in the first place, I will be glad to fill you in. keep checking the other posts as i will post pictures of my progress. there is nothing more to share about the ohp than is given in the links- i will have more and clearer pics of it as i move forward.
what you need for the ohp method:
-lcd panel
-light system (lamp & ballast, maybe socket, power cord)
-not to mention the OHP
depending on the size of your panel, you might need to modify the stage of the ohp, but i have alsready done so. if you buy another, you'd need a rotary tool, or a saw to enlarge it as necessary.
that's aboput it. this is the simplest method by far as the optics are aligned for you. you just need to worry about the light and heat. good luck.

Dont waste time getting an OHP from the States. Weight makes for bigtime shipping, specially across the border...add in the exchange rate....duty....
I got a 3M 9550 "used" from an audiovisual rental place "Instructor Aids" in Nova Scotia 175.00 CDN 30 day warranty 2 bulbs. My point is, I got lucky with my find seeing as I live in Nova Scotia. I used to live in Toronto and area...I bet you have DOZENS of audiovisual shops that do rentals. They sell those rentals after a while...the place I got my 3M from also had a selection of professional LCD PJ's for sale....make an offer basis. Two of them needed lighting work(one was suspected lamp...the other was known ballast problem) the third works but is an older unit so has crappy ressollution and low lumens. My latest "scrounge" was a powered 10 foot by 8 foot Draper "Envoy" screen 200.00 CDN...office liquidation warehouse...again a LOCAL source. If I still lived in TO I'd take you shopping with me and we would find some VERY COOL DEALS for sure!!!
Stay close to home with your searching, don't tell too many potential scrounge sources what you are doing untill you have made your purchase (they sometimes see what you will have in the end and inflate costs) You should be able to find an OHP projection panel in TO at one of the rental places....check "Cash Convertors" an other pawn shops also.

Yup thats the idea, I don't know if that panel is any good. I don't use a projection panel..I use a laptop screen with a PC based controller card. Look around the forum for info on the best panels to look for.
And don't forget some of the best deals are a 10 minute car ride away...grab the yellow pages and start dialing..good guys to talk to at rental places are the techs that service the gear, they will usually tell you what is there and what it might be worth (they just fix stuff.. dont give a ...what the company wants for it or thinks it's worth). Learn everything you can about the technology and just watch the doors open.
