Yes

In the datasheet from this Sharp LQ9P011 display
which is inside, it's advised as 512 colors.
But for 10 years they didn't told it in the datasheets
in the same manner as today.

512 colors ( 9 Bit )
...but pro Red , pro Green , pro Blue

so you end with

512 x 512 x 512 = 134217728 possible colors.

1.3 Mio colors

That's sure. You need not ask further.
It took me weeks to get this datasheet.

And in the first moment when i saw 512 colors i was shocked.
One day later i recognized this fine but important difference.

Hope i could help

regards
Rainer

Thanks, thanks a ton! You think #135 was too much to pay for this panel? Just wondering.

Also, 134217728 seems to be, with commas inserted, 134,217,728 colors. I know it doesnt have this many; but that's the # you presented.

THANKFUL, 🙂

with 512 x 512 x 512 you get sum of possibilities
or combinations which are possible.

I cannot tell you exact how many colors because
i didn't know how many "greysteps" are defined
here.

theoretically i think .....
with 128 greysteps you get 1.048576 colors
with 64 greysteps you get 2.097152 colors

perharps nview does some dithering stuff.
Who knows .......

for example Proxima called it ACE - Advanced Color something
which results in theoretically 2 Mio colors.

but is it really so important when you have enough colors ?

Just a guess but, maybe the difference is in the # of connections. For instance, my SpectraPro has: optional monitor out, digital out, analog out, S-video, and composite. Anyone on the connections of a SpectraC ? Spectra Plus ?
As far as I can tell the colors and resolution seem to be the same on all three.

From the manual it is capable of 1.4 million colors. Resolution is 640*480 but will do 800*600, Although I believe the image is cropped.

I havent seen a projected image yet, but I'm fairly certain it'll be decent. I'll be sure to post my results when my projector arrives (ELMO305SD). hopefully tomorrow.

Edit: just an after thought...... I think the whole 16.7 million colors thing is wishfull thinking by some pp (or false advertising). Someone is selling a panel that looks identical to mine on ebay. In his desciption he says that it has 16.7, but my manual clearly states 1.4.

Hi water1,
My being new to this whole deal combined with the fact that I havent actually seen the panel projected yet, I dont know if I'm qualified to say weather its a deal of not. I also think it's up to the buyer to figure if its a a deal or not....How bad do you want a panel? are there other panels available? How do the others stack up as far as features, res, colors, price? I think most of all make sure it comes with everything and it'll do what you want it to do. I would pay alot more for the security of knowing it would work the way I wanted it to . The less of a gamble I have to take, the more it would be worth to me.

IMO, there are other panels out there that'll do the same thing for less money.
JFYI, I got mine for $135. Looks very clean, came with Power, S-video cable, vga cable, 2 composite cables, a couple mac adapters, 2 BNC-RCA adapters, useless manual, and case.

Good stuff, I believe same. I paid $135 for the Spectra Plus and the buyer seems very trustworthy, and the pictures were good proof of at least not DOA. You could prob spend ~$90, but who wants to take that risk? Well I thought about it actually.. 😎

Also, 404, what is your panel, a Pro, I assume?

And yeh, I think it would be hard to prove 1.4M <-> 16.7M without something written on paper by the manuf.

P.S. Besides the definition of a cropped image, could someone tell me how it applies to "cropping to a higher resolution"? So it wouldn't be true 800x600?

I have a Spectra Pro panel that I have been using for the past few months. IT came complete with case, remote, all cables, and manual, for $100 , not a bad deal. According to the manual it does 640x480 and 1.4 million colors, at 60,70, or 72hz, it is also capable of doing 800x600 (this wasn't in the manual, but I have done it before with my setup, but the top and bottom of the image gets cut off, I bleive this is what they mean by cropped) It is a very good panel, and I do not believe that the C, Plus, and Pros are much different from each other. Also I set my computer to 32-bit color when projecting, 16-bit didnt look right.
