It is a disaster, I'm not sad, but I have no personal connection to it.
When Windsor Castle went up in flames I thought it was an impressive sight and the sort of thing that should happen to castles 🙂
It should be interesting to see whether the Yellow Vests will succeed blaming Notre Drame on Macron.

not really. The Twin Towers was a disaster, Grenfell was a disaster, this was just a fire.
Yeah, it's a shame, very sad. But - it's just a building. It can be repaired. No one died, is the main thing.
I wonder whether the Brits would say 'it's just a building' when Big Ben would burn down.
I think many French would gladly give their life it it would undo this.

Let's hope that when (if) they do rebuild the cathedral, they install an automatic sprinkler system.

Its a beautiful and iconic building that's c. 850 years old - I can understand why the French are upset about this. If Westminster Cathedral burnt down, there would some pretty unhappy Brits around that's for sure.
However, if the houses of Parliament burnt down (as some MP's have warned could happen), you can bet there would be a mighty cheer across the land (and elsewhere as well).

I would say the same for any building, anywhere. It's sad, but if no one died, it can be rebuilt if we want. Buildings are inanimate, just man made things, in the final analysis.
