If you have nothing to do, do this. It was carnaval (feb/2014) and I had 4 days to rest. So, I invited some friends to barbecue. There was a turntable that would be very useful to fire the barbecue. But then, I decided to work with it.
Now, it's working again.
There is only one problem: I have no LP. So, what should I do?

- buy some LP
- give the turntable to someone else
- fire another barbuce and invite some friends

Seriously, you put that much work into and your asking whether to use it or not.
It's of moderate quality, the cartridge is probably the same. I won't buy some expensive reissue, like the MFSL's (their over priced, IMO mastered oddly). But there are other reissues that are good. The original pressings done in the same country as recorded are usually the best, but of course usually only available from resale record stores. Find or ask around for a good resale shop, usually the funkier the better.
Look any choice over well, you'll able to see the shape its in. Clean before playing
Get on line and find a copy of operation/owners manual for it if you can.

Go buy some records, Man. Make up your mind.

This was a fun job. At first, I was working on a tube amp and during the carnival started work on this turnetable. It was a beer mixed with fun.
For anyone who was a teenager in the 70s, like me, the LP was the contact with the rock and roll. The covers of the albums was the only way to see the shows of bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and many others. At that time, nor VHS was available here in Brazil.
For today's youth, IPOD, IPHONE, DAC etc, are much more advanced than vinyl and cassettes. But this youth did not live those good times.
Every Saturday we were at the house of a friend to hear the "cookies", which is what we call the LP here in Brazil (large biscuit).
Surely vinyl, cassette and radio are outdated technology, but the covers of albums, the release of new songs on the radio, are forever in our bloods. Thus, you can not consider the LP trash, outdated yes, but always remembered.
Maybe I buy a top turntable, but to only enjoy a time that is gone ...
Thank you for the link. Good directories.

Vinyl has one advantage, a big advantage. If your into HiRez audio files, there a allot of vinyl 'rippers' out there that have top-end equipment, quality ADC converters and access to vinyl collections that are beyond most anyones reach. There a few very skilled 'rippers' that produce some amazing 24bit 96kHz+ FLAC files from vinyl. It's a somewhat secretive group that doesn't want general access and offers their art to select members only... LLSS
