Hello, I am new here and this is my first post so here goes.
I am wondering about this Norcent moniter I stumbled across
on E-bay last night. Specs look good and the price seems good as well.

I have also found this on price watch for slightly less than $200
Shipped.
I am currently using a Sharp QA-1650 that I found at a flea market, an old Elmo HP-L355 overhead that I got for $10.
I put an FXL bulb in my overhead to give me a little more light and I am fairly stoked at the results so far.

That's a very good deal as long as the seller isn't lying about any of the specs. The fact that it's 14" would make it worth it.
Looks like the specs from the ebay add are off a bit. According to this website it has 250:1 contrast ratio. They must have gotten them confused with the 15" model (LM153).

The manufacturers website doest even list this product.
Kinda strange?
Still, would definatly be an upgrade over what I am currently using, and as I am wrighting this my damn bulb just quit in my overhead projector. Looks like its time to search for one thats suitable for a halide mod.

I probably will give this monitor a try but it might be a week or two before I can get one becuse I just got a new overhead projector. I purchased a Dukane 670 with a 575watt halide bulb.
Yah, I know the bulb is exspensive, but I found a site that has them for $82 and I think it would be cheaper in the long run than
replaceing my halogen bulb every 50 hours to the tune of $15.
the halide should last 1000 or so. That would add up to about $300 in halogen bulbs if my math is right. Plus this has the proper color temp and the unit only cost me $85.

Do you have a link to the site you found it for 82$? I have an Ask 970 which uses the same bulb. Here in Norway the cost of that bulb is about 320$, which is just insane.
I found it at www.lampsngel.com for 99$.
Thanks in advance!

No problem. The part # as you probably already know is HMI575GS. Heres the Link:http://www.proadv.com/lamps.htm
I think the "GS" stands for "gap shortend", thish should be the loner life bulb.

that is good too, buy it!
but i hav no money to buy it , i brought a lamp only 25$, 575W,that was made in China,
I sure hope someone tests one of those out. I'd like to buy one, but I'm broke for another month. I'd spend my "girlfriend fund" on it, but I'd like to hear reviews on it first, projection-wise... Anyone that would do that for us would be a great person 😉
agurk: How is the Ask 970? Ive been thinking about one myself. Just a few questions.
1) How is its blacklevel?
2) are the fans loud?
3) can you use one w/o a remote?

I'm pretty happy with the blacklevel. The LCD has a 100:1 contrast ratio, and it do come a bit short in dark scenes, but over all it's okay. If you calibrate it good it delivers great results, at least I'm pleased😉 I strongly recomend using it with a pc, because the internal scaler doesn't do a great job on composite/s-video input. You can set it up to use 1:1 pixel mapping, so on PAL input via the s-video the image is only 720x576 which delivers good results, but then you're not using your whole panel.
The fan is quite loud, probably around 45dB. I've learnt to ignore it, but at the start it was a bit annoying. It's a crossflow fan, and I have found a similiar on the net with a 32dB rating that pushes the same amount of air. I might retrofit it with this, but I'll have to take a closer look at the specs first.
You can not use it w/o a remote. However the remote is not that expensive. In norway it's about 70 USD, but you can probably get it cheaper in the US. I use a PDA (iPAQ 3630) as remote, so if you're interested in the codes, let me know.
Overall I'm pleased with it. I bought it for approx 250 USD. The cheapest 15'' LCD here is about 440 USD, so I'm not complainig 😉
For specs, take a look here:

I've also got the service manual if your interested in digging even deeper 😉

Thanks, well I think I might get one. Right now I have a Telex p170v. It is a 150 lumen 640x480 pj with 100:1 also. But the bulbs only last 75 hours each and a few pixels are dead so I was thinking of that as a replacement for it. I just saw a 960 go for $200 on ebay, it needed a new bulb and did not have a remote.
