I have been reading and researching like crazy. All I feel like I have gained is a huge headache. I know this sounds stupid. But I just want someone to tell me what kit to build. At this point I don't want to learn how to design an amp. I am sure many different designs will fit my needs. But I would like to hear what you guys would recommend as the best Gainclone design for my application.
I want to build seven monoblocks for a home theater situation. I want to use a fast and neutral amp design that won't wimp out during demanding sound effects.
I am looking to power the following speakers.
http://www.htdaudio.com/htdlevthreto.html
-------------------
Max. Power Handling 160 watts
Frequency Response 40 Hz - 20 kHz
Impedance 8 ohms
Sensitivity 90dB
Voice Coil 1.5"
Shielded Magnet woofer (2): 14 + 11 OZ; tweeter: 5 + 3 OZ
Crossover 3rd order on tweeter at 3000Hz; 2nd order woofer
Dimensions
. . excluding base (HxWxD) 41 3/8" x 8 5/8" x 10 7/8"
. . base only (HxWxD) 1" x 10 3/4" x 12 3/4"
Weight (per piece) 46 lbs
-------------------
Thanks
Matt

You don't mention how you expect to set up the bass management in your surround decoder. Is it 7 channels for a 6.1 decoder, so 3 pairs of those speakers plus a sub? Will your decoder send bass to all the speakers plus the sub, or will you send bass to just the sub?
6 channels of gainclone will be very nice, but a 7th won't keep up for sub use. Of course, the beauty of monoblocks is, if you don't like it, you only have to change one, so you may as well just try it.

Sorry about that. I want to build 7 monoblocks for the 7 full range speakers in a 7.1 system. The sub is already powered.
The speaker setup consist of the following:
1 center

3 pairs of towers

1 Powered sub
http://www.htdaudio.com/levthrepowsu.html
Thanks for the reply. I live in the US and have been trying to find the brand names mentioned in the design. I haven't been able to find any of the brand names.
For the best possible gainclone setup what transfomers, cap, etc. should I use. And where can I find them? However I want to keep the cost of the 7 monoblock below $1600 US. I know thats alot to ask. If you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Matt

Just search through Peter Daniel's posts for all the high end components...Black Gate caps...Cardas binding posts...Plitron transformers...you know, all the stuff I don't use! 🙂 😉
Transformer - www.plitron.com
caps - www.partsconnexion.com (black gate caps)
resistors can be obtained at partsconnexion as well (riken)
the rest .. well, really up to you ..
the only thing left is hookup wire, solder, binding posts, rca inputs ....
