No Video on lcd

Hi

I recently took apart an lcd screen today (got it cheap) to use on an ohp everything went great until I took it apart and removed the panel. It gets power but no video shows up on the panel, so thinking I even connected the backlight back up to it and the backlight lights up great. I have all the connectors connected. I am just curious as to what it could be. Any ideas would be great. this was my first time so I used it as a learning experience. I would just like to know if there is something I am forgetting.

I dont know if this matters but it is a 7" tft lcd screen. the kind that go in a vehicle. I got so cheap I thought it would be good to experiment with. I tested it before I stripped it and it worked.

Thanks for the help

🙂

Perhaps with the backlight unplugged, it lost its power balance (just like a computer powersupply can if you only use the 12v rail without anything on the 5v) and the voltage went up and burned out something. Just my 2 cents

How much did you pay, and do you have any specs of it?

I dont really know the specs other than it is a lilliput 7" screen.

I picked up for only $20 so it was worth the experiment. I would just like to know what I did wrong so that I dont repeat it. Maybe I will never know. It worked great until I removed it from its case then nothing but a flicker when you turn the power on and off

thanks for your input😀

$20??? Wow...was it the touchscreen version...and where from?
The lillis do seem to either be perfect (luckily for me so far) or complete crap though.
Have a look through the forums over at mp3car.com and see if someone else has a problem like yours. It is probally just due to a loose cable somewhere...they're pretty sensitive.

Sorry. I bought this off of a friend who recently took it out of his car. Not that it is doing me any good now since it dont work. Frustrating not knowing why but I think I will have to live with it and try another.

ksmyarse thanks I will check out that forum.

Never Mind

Problem solved!

EVERYONE: CHECK THE ORINTATION ON THOSE FFC CABLES BEFORE YOU GO OUT AND GET ANOTHER ONE ( thanx ACE!)

I was bound and determined to get this thing working tonight to meet my superbowl deadline and I found the problem. I first lightly filed the FFC from the button panel to the mian controller board. Then I noticed there were 14 pins on the connecter on the button panel. There are only 13 pins on the cable. You have to make sure you have the cable going into the right set of pins.if you have the wrong one open the entire LCD will not operate.

I was certain the controller board was zonked. ACE suggested that I check the cables again. I had already took my meter to them and I was getting values on both ends of the cable so I ruled it out.

Ace suggested that I check at the back of the connecters instead. I kept getting problems at those end leads. So I lightly filed the cable. Nothing... then I counted the leads and that's when I noticed that there was one more lead on the connecter than the cable. So I tried it on one side, nothing.. tried it on the otherside and, Vóila! A working LCD!
