Nichicon Muse BP-P question

Hi Guys

I've got some ES bipolar BP-P 10uf 50v caps.
Strangely this not in the ES datasheet
Another is the size it is huge 3/4 the height of
the 100uf 50v ES cap with the same diameter
Can anyone shed some light on this pls

Similar to these? They are referred to here as an "upper grade" of the BP Nichicon MUSE BP-P 3.3uF 50V capacitors 4 pcs ! | eBay

Yes similar but the sleeve is just like the ES series translucent green.
One think its true it sounds very very good

ES=Muse, these are not Muse series.
Mouser has some stock of these crossover caps.

But crossover caps aren't BP-P

The caps Nichicon calls crossover caps come in DB and GB version, marked as BP-S and BP-P. So yes they are BP-P.

I've noticed that too - bipolar electrolytics designed for crossover use have very low ESR and are designed for high currents. It makes sense that they would work well as a simple line level signal coupling cap, since they're excessively over-rated.

Hi Sumotan,

I will have a look in my caps bank, I think I have some ! I may be wrong but I think Philips used to place them at DC caps as well in the 80s' because it's the same matier green ! Or maybe they just changed in the 2000s' the electric green plastic for the regular ES serie...

In serie the old one sounding far better than a new ES : don't know if it's the aging of the cap but it makes no sense : so the caps must be different indeed or just in my case added a nice default at ears...

You must be on Something 🙂


Edit(h) : Don't know if Jim's Audio for the caps but he has some cool regs and Hiraga's class A 😉 reliable boards (would try with your ML...)

: I will make a bencchmark at iso perimeter as I have also the same values in Panasonic bipolar and Elna bipolar....

Actually when I bought it at the shop I ask if they were Muse BP &
shop owner said yes so my purchase was a mistake in disguise. Lol
Was scratching my head as to why a 50v 10uf cap is so big in size
but Im glad that I used it cause it sounds bloody good. Better use
this for future projects

Btw don't tempt me with Jim's audio stuff ya. Need
to finsih my DHT front end for my amp. For now even
without it, it just sounds fabulous. Btw I finally found
out why BG NX which I dislike so much had rave reviews.
It has to be used on with BG caps as bypass to rip the
benefits but stay away from the 0.1uf only use the 0.47uf
Imagine it makes a 1uf BG N sounds even better hard
to believe but it really does

Common, build Something reliable : electricity is too expensive here but an Hiraga class A 2x20 or 30 W with you caps knowledge should be Something... 🙂

Haizzz already told you what to try on the output of AYA right.
BTW Just to be sure you speaking of Muse BP or BP-P.
Cause the BP-P only available in 10uf 50v at the store.
Muse 100 uf 50v BP no problem
