Newbie question

I have been reading the diyAudio forums quite some time (mostly the pass labs)

But I have to ask this stupid question. What is meant by this forums topic?
"solid state" ? I know what "solid state" means (not gas, liquid etc) but I don't see what this have to do with the electronic in this forum. I can’t think of much electronics that isn’t solid state (maybe tubes or something like that???)

Maybe it's just because of my (lack of?) english skills that I don't understand the topic. The rest of the topics are easily understood, everyone know what should be discussed under e.g. 'loudspeaker', 'pass labs' or 'tubes'

Solid state is simply the name given to transistor circuits.
In ancient times, (like when I was in school) it was the "solid
state" physists who worked on the problems of semiconductors
and other stuff like that, and the term stuck. Later on, those
same guys started getting a little respect.

Of course tubes are kind of different, and I think we all
understand that the "chip amp" guys are a variant of solid state.

Pass Labs, of course stands in its own category 😉 You never
know when we'll stick a tube or a light bulb in something, just
to be bad.
