Hi guys. I’m new here and somewhat new to DIY.
But I’m hooked. I have built a set of poorly designed TL’s that I have fallen in love with.
To tell the truth there was no design involved. You see I spend a lot of time in my shop and sometimes I will grab a sheet of plywood and start cutting. Next thing you know I have a set of speakers playing. There is never any math involved in any aspect of building except to make sure I have enough wood to complete the project. I have for a long time now been listening to a set of Delta Infinity 60’s. I know, I know, mass Fi at best. But for my rather small listening area they work.
I ran across a bunch of drivers from Vifa and bought them up.
4 VIFA TC18WG-15-08 7" $20.00 total
I had lying around a couple older Vifa tweets. $0.00 total.
So the cutting began. A few days later I hooked them up to a Carver M-200t. AND WOW!!!!!
What a sound. I love them. They are still out in the garage. I go out there every night and listen to them and still after a month say WOW!!!!
I think they sound better than my 60’s If you want the specks on them just ask.
Now to the point of this post.
I want (have) to build a KILLER set of TL’s.
I was looking at w-w-m-t-m arrangement. I want it to look mean just sitting there with the amp off.
So I was looking at 2 DAYTON 10" TITANIC MKII’s for the way downs
2 VIFA P13WH-00 5’s for the mids and 1 TANG BAND 28-847SA’s for the upper end in each box.
They will be actively crossed and fed via 1 Carver M200-t bridged for the woofers, and one M200-t for the mids and tweets, for each speaker.
Now I could just place the order wait for them to come in, fire up the table saw and hope I get as lucky as I did with the other ones.
I have tried to follow Kings Formulas and I get cross eyed. I have been looking for an easy to use rule of thumb guide to TLs. I am finding out slowly that there is not one.
Is there anyone anywhere that does design work for a fee? Is there a group of people that get there kicks mulling over equations that make most people wish they were having a root canal instead? Or am I SOL?

I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions... i really like the little Vifa P13s, i'm not a big fan of MTMs thou.
What i'd do is a set of little sats using the P13s in a bipole (sealed or TL -- the TLbs come to mind 🙂), with a better tweeter -- the one in the TLb is perfectly matched. Then i'd put each pair of Dayton 10s in a little "cubish" push-push aperiodic box.
This might not give you the visual stun factor you are suggesting, but it has the potential to sound alot better.

Sounds like a classic case of "newbie-itis". I'm still trying to recover from my bout. I would suggest some reading before making a big purchase of drivers.
