new to stereo sound and DIY audio

hello all,

I'm a new to stereo sound as well as DIY audio in general. I have always had a passion for high quality sound reproduction but up until now have not been able to afford anything noteworthy.

I have had some descent car audio setups in the past, but now I have taken the plunge and am building a dedicated 2.1 system for the house. I have good fabrication and technical skills (Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering background), and am willing to purchase the right tools for the job as well as put the time and effort in to get good results.

I am a researcher by nature and like to feel confident in my purchases, so i typically put a lot of thought into things before i pull the trigger on a purchase. thus far, my research led me to buy the Zaph Audio ZRT 2-way kit from madisound, which I will be building in either a sealed or small ported configuration.

I have a 13W7 that I would like to use as the sub for this system, which would more than likely evolve into a HT setup eventually (with the bookshelf ZRT's moving to the back and ZRT 2.5 towers acting as the fronts).

To be determined is my source, preamp, and amp/s as well as the smaller details such as interconnects etc. I have several ideas that i'm kicking around but really lack the experience to know what is best for my needs, in addition to this, I have not heard anything remotely close to the caliber of system that I am building (or at least attempting to).

I am sure that I will come up with some questions when I get further along and I'm sure that this site we be a valuable resource for my new projects.

Thanks!
