Lectured various subjects at a Technikon for 12.5 years , got "demoted" and transferred to Computer maintenance and support (hardware/software).
Main interest is building the best MC based valve phono stage possible with bits and pieces from everywhere. Have a family of "golden eared audio critics" which is hell on my ego.

Peranders is the man you need for the 'ultimate' in MC amps.
But..... I see it has to be a tube amp. Too bad, could have been a nice project.

Yes I have seen his ccts almost from the beginning which were similar to a circuit published in the 80's by Elector magazine(no name) which I have used several times in the past , of the 4 that I built one ended up in Australia ,one in N Zealand one in the States and one in the UK. I built them loaned them to other Audio types and never saw them again they work that well. Now my eyesight is shot and just can't seem to find the energy to build another one but since listening to a locally made Valve Amp prototype due for production some time in the future and having some of the parts of an earlier valve preamp I decided that was the way to go.
However my brain has gone dry with age🙁 and maths is not my forte so cribbing other circuits is the only way out. I also tend to build heavy i.e Tank proof (likely to cause injury if dropped on foot ) for example.
And to think that I spent 14 years at a Transmitting station where everything worked with valves and my sole interest was anything transistor (modern) makes me want to

Like I said I think I visited Pers site when he was still busy with the "monster" and I was and am suitably impressed. I would have liked to get the boards from him but at the time the exchange rate was ridiculous (not much better now either)
However the way I see it valves are big and fat and easy for me to see BC550's and 560's are not if you know what I mean.
Factually I was never a valve fan at all (they were to old fashioned) is what I thought in 1969/1972 and I worked with valve equipment everyday , the transistor was the "new"kid on the block and it appealed to my ideology at the time.
My system started with a Connoiseur TT /Empire 999 cart Sansui AU555 amp and locally manufacture TLS's based on Seas drivers.circa 1971/75. Then to MArantz 4100 /Technics SB501/Pioneer PL51 DD /Empire 1000zex/4000 DIII + Sansui QS1 Marantz SQA-1 and JVC CD-4 etc etc.
The PL 51 lasted all that time until a year ago when a SP10 MKII/AT1501 MKIII came my way and I thought this was it but the TT required a new solid well made plinth and that is were the wheels fell off. My health and other factors got in the way and I eventually managed a swop for a Micro Seiki BL 77 TT which is an absolute delight with a grace Arm that I bought sometime in the 80's and a AT OC 9 MC which committed "hari-kiri" on me so I bought a Denon DL 103. Now I am a very happy chappie indeed.
The amp is ss a venerable Pioneer A400 the best they ever made and I have a pair of Maggy SMGa's (in need of repair) plus a mix of other speakers to play around with.
The A400 main drawback is its phono stage. In the interim I had a good listen to a SET amp and I like what I heard so valves is the route I have chosen for DIY .
