New life for old Ditton 33

A long time ago I came across some old Celestion Ditton 33's.
The chipboard cabs were cactus and missing a mid range driver.

Anyway, listening to them, they were ok (the complete one at least), but not great - they sounded hollow and empty and were a a bit disappointing.

Fast forward a year or so to my first speaker project. Now this took a long time because I didn't think they were so great to begin with...but I eventually built some new cabs from 18mm ply to the same internal dimensions as the original. It now has extra bracing and the mid cab is now fully joined and glued to the main cab (the original was 10mm chipboard suspended from the from baffle). The mid and tweeter are aligned and the pair of speakers are mirror imaged. Some poly felt around the inside and slap of paint (was getting impatient and bored with the whole project). I've retained the unmodified original crossovers.

How do they sound? Fuller with more presence and better imaging. They sound good! Makes we wish I had taken a bit more time with finishing them...
Anyway, listening test is totally subjective as I haven't measured anything. I'm sure those more knowledgeable will be able to tell me what I've done to the F of the cab etc.

Anyway - I wouldn't do it again - not with old drivers, but makes me wonder what some of the DIY monitor designs out there sound like!
