New Head Unit for an Old School fan.

I have been out of the car audio scene for almost ten years. I got tired of it and went on to different hobbies, most notably RC and Guitar.

Anyway my 2006 Tundra has a double din space in it and I am sick of the POS that came with the truck.

And since I make about four times the money that I made on my last install, and my requirements are quite different these days I really need some help.

I want a head unit that is pretty much a computer in the dash, so to say. I dont want Ipods hanging off my dash, I dont want USB sticks sticking out and all that jive. I want to be able to store all my music in the unit itself, or have a dedicated SSD hard drive wired up through the back of the unit and hidden away in the dash. I dont know if either of these options are possible, but if they are not thats just down right dumb.

I also want multiple CD file (MP3, WMA, blah blah) playing, ability to stream HD radio, Decent GPS, and wireless remote.

As far as signal processing for the audio, I would like to have features that will allow me to tune the system and preset different settings for different types of music, although not necessary. But at least an EQ section would be nice to balance out the curve. At least a two way crossover would be nice. But If I can get something that will let me adjust curves to a flat response with an RTA, adjust crossover points all along the spectrum, adjust different filter slopes, adjust time delay for each speaker, and any other things that will allow proper tuning for a true realistic sound, those features would be a real plus.

I am not very interested in Video playback, I dont even watch much TV at home. I am more worried about a true playback of a CD with the intended pure recording.

So far I have looked at an Alpine INA-w910 and the INE-S920HD. I didnt really get to look good at the specs and really dont understand what the big difference between them is.

I dont have anything like bluetooth, Ipod, or any of the new things that are out there these days. Matter of fact I use a tracphone and just got on with Itunes with my computer about four months ago. Its not that I dont know how to use or cant figure out these things, I just was never really interested in them. But I can see that there are some nice things I have been missing out on.

My Budget is in the 1000-1500 for the head unit alone. Later down the road I may expand the radio. My big problem is the extream lack of space in a 2006 tundra, I pretty much have the space under the two front seats for two amps. I have looked into chopping up the areas under the back seat for an amp rack and a hardcore install of a ten inch sub in each rear ext. cab access door. Those door subs would be a rebuild of the inside structure of the door along with dampening and stiffining. I just put those things in the post to show people how far this install could go over the long haul.

Sorry about the long post, but I really dont even have an idea on what to really search for and with the high expense of a head unit like this I wanted to really inform people on what I wanted.

Thanks a million for reading the long post and taking the time to help if you have any suggestions.

Mark.
