ye, the projector will be as small as a retail lcd projector if not smaller. The price wont be as high as somepeople might think, you can get lcd tvs pretty cheap, and those are around 320x240, maybe abit less. This screen would probably cost as much as the lilliput, possibly less, but not straight away, the price will have to comedown, once manufacturers start to use this lcd.

Nice find, its not too bad though the pixels are abit big, i see it has 18bit colour too. Atleast with one of these we can do away with our frensels and project in paralelle all the way through giving a super bright and clear image.

Trev🙂

I'm thinking that the *low* resolution will be made up for in size. With something so small, fresnels wont be needed. Not only that, the light doesnt have to travel nearly as far.

Looks like I'll be building a new projector as soon as tehse things become affordable.

The only thing we would need to get implemented would be a zoom and we would be right there in competition with the comercially made ones. I can't imagine how small a projector could be by using one of these... Heat might be even more of an issue due to the fact that everything will be closer together... Myabe not.

The smaller components will not only make abetter picture, but a much more difficult project. It might get to be tough getting all of these small parts lined up just right, as the tolerance for error will dramatically decrease. Anyway, as soon as they are 'cheap' I'm gonna give it a try.

Blast From The Past

I remember drooling over these things 2 years ago 🙂. Small LCD's are very cool but also very expensive. And as Dwiel brought up a good point, harder to align. I'm sure in a few years these will become cheaper. After reading that website, It looks like the intended use for that LCD is in a phone/pda type application where text from wireless internet or gps would have to be blown up. I'm not sure it would fair to good with video. Also, becuase it is for a handheld device, it would probably have a built in back light that could not be removed. Also, there would probably not be a controler since it would be the job of the company building the product the device is fitting into to design that aspect. I will however be looking out for these since thay will probably be lower cost then lcd projector grade LCDs ($500 is my guess) becuase they are for lower end applications such as cell phones 😀.

Nice Find
