Hey,
this is a semi-projector related question, as my use for it is for use with my projector (when built).
I remember years ago when networked, my computers could access the others cd drive along with the hard drive. So is it possible to utilise the graphics card, tv-in card, etc. via a network?
My idea is, I may soon be aquiring a new laptop computer which I will turn into a projector. But instead of wasting all but the screen I'll use the laptop as an onboard computer for the projector (and hopefully even control the lighting via the computer). But laptop parts are expensive, for example if I remember correct a laptop DVD-rom is $500AUD new (a high-end one) while a desktop pc's one is less than $100AUD new. So I want to have a desktop pc (just the tower) nearby the laptop and utilise the cheaper hard drive, dvd, and graphics card. I know, sorry, think I can do the hard drive and dvd, but can I use the graphics card with the laptop?
Thanks for your help

As far as i am aware there is absolutely NO way where you could utilize the video card from a remote computer. You are right about sharing hard drive and cd-rom, however, and in this case it sounds like a decent idea.

Damn. Is there any way to connect a desktop pc graphics card into a laptop? My main reason to use the whole laptop really is because I'd be getting it for free most likley and don't then want to spend lots on a controller. 🙁
well, seems like you'd want something akin to a video out on the desktop's vid card (be it composite, S-video, firewire ) and run it into the laptop's video IN accordingly. The graphics card on the desktop would then be shouldering MOST of the graphics processing. On the other hand, a laptop with a video IN might not be the easiest thing to find, and might require something external ( example : a Dazzle usb device..although these suck )
